One of the largest national historic districts in the country, Virginia City, Nevada, has much to offer visitors and locals alike. At its peak during the 19th century mining bonanza, Virginia City was a thriving, vibrant metropolis of 25,000 citizens. Silver and gold was buried deep beneath her streets and men and women traveled from around the world to live and work. Complete your “back in time” experience with an authentic train excursion on the V&T Railroad that travels from Carson City to Virginia City or take the short line from the Virginia City depot to Gold Hill.
Memorial Day Celebration of Heroes Parade
The Comstock honors all the men and women of the military who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country the weekend of Memorial Day. Join the folks of Virginia City in May to pay tribute to the great service men and women.
4th of July Parade
Independence Day is best celebrated on the Comstock. Start your day with the 4th of July parade then browse the great local shops before you catch the Comstock Cowboys Second Amendment Concert followed by the region’s longest firework displays.
Labor Day Parade
Celebrate the American labor movement and all the achievements of workers in our country up on the Comstock. Virginia City is proud to honor and celebrate the men and women who have made our country what it is today.
Bring your favorite little goblin dressed to scare to the Goblin Parade on Halloween. Check-in begins at 4 p.m. at the VC Jerky Company.
Taste of the Comstock - June

Street Vibrations - June & September
Enjoy motorcycle heaven at this celebration of music, metal and motorcycles!
Virginia City plays host to a raucous celebration of music, metal and motorcycles with Street Vibrations. The roar of motorcycles shakes the ground as thousands of bikers ride to the Comstock for good food, live entertainment and plenty of fun. This event is also held in Downtown Reno, Tahoe, and Carson City.
Hot August Nights - August
Don’t miss the kick-off of Hot August Nights, the region’s most prominent classic car gathering! This famous car event brings with it free live music, a celebrity Show-n-Shine and hundreds of cars parading down C Street in historic Virginia City. Reserve your seat on the V&T Railroad for this annual event that takes place the first Friday and Saturday in August.
International Camel & Ostrich Races - September
Camels, ostriches and zebras make a fine spectacle to watch as they race around the Virginia City Arena & Fairgrounds with jockeys precariously perched on their backs. It’s a sight you won’t see anywhere else. Bring the family out to enjoy this hilarious family event, a true staple in northern Nevada. After the races, join the Camel Hump to C Street where thirsty camels have been known to duck into a bar or two. Purchase event tickets in advance. Annual World Championship Outhouse Races - October
Take a ride through history before seeing a humorous, history-filled outhouse race in Virginia City. First, board the V&T Railroad and follow the same scenic route traveled by entrepreneurs, gamblers, aristocrats, and other colorful characters in the 1800s. Once you’ve arrived, watch as teams of three zip down C Street in outhouses to hit the toilet paper finish line first. Ride the V&T Railway, and don’t worry about parking to see this one-of-a-kind contest.
